Zivid Unveils Zivid 2+ R-Series Cameras for Enhanced Robotic Vision

by Marco van der Hoeven

Zivid has introduced the Zivid 2+ R-series cameras, a new lineup designed to improve the efficiency and precision of robotic vision systems in e-commerce, logistics, and manufacturing. These cameras provide faster performance and enhanced data capture capabilities compared to earlier models.

The Zivid 2+ R-series features significantly faster data acquisition, with combined 2D image and 3D point cloud captures achieved in as little as 150 milliseconds for e-commerce applications and 50 milliseconds for parcel handling. This speed supports high-throughput operations, such as processing up to 1,700 parcels per hour in logistics.

The cameras include a redesigned 2D camera with a 5-megapixel sensor that delivers high-resolution imaging. The 2D and 3D systems are integrated into a single device, removing the need for external calibration or additional lighting. The Zivid Sage Engine, a new 3D reconstruction technology, addresses challenges associated with vertical reflections and interreflections, improving performance when capturing data from reflective and transparent surfaces.

The R-series cameras support various industrial applications. In e-commerce, they are designed to handle materials such as transparent bottles, bubble wrap, and poly bags while minimizing errors like mispicks or damaged items. In logistics, the cameras capture data from diverse packaging materials with high dynamic range, enabling accurate parcel differentiation and segmentation. In manufacturing, they aim to enhance the precision and speed of tasks involving shiny or intricately shaped objects.

The cameras are designed to perform reliably under varying lighting conditions, with features that minimize degradation of data quality caused by ambient light changes. This adaptability is intended to ensure consistent results across different environments. The updated Zivid Studio interface and SDK 2.14 offer features to simplify setup and deployment, including user-friendly presets and API integration. Configurations can be exported as YAML files for streamlined implementation.

The Zivid 2+ R-series includes three models: the MR60, which supports high-resolution, robot-mounted operations for fine picking and assembly; the MR130, suited for standard bin-picking applications; and the LR110, designed for larger bin-picking tasks with a broader field of view. With faster data acquisition and integrated design features, the Zivid 2+ R-series aims to support the demands of automation in industrial sectors such as logistics and manufacturing.
