Universal Robots Updates Payload Capacity for UR20 and UR30

by Marco van der Hoeven

Universal Robots has increased the payload capacity of its UR20 and UR30 collaborative robots (cobots) by 5 kg (11 lbs), bringing their total capacities to 25 kg and 35 kg, respectively. This upgrade, available without additional cost to customers, is expected to enhance productivity, particularly in palletizing applications.

The increased payload capacity is achieved through a software update to version 5.19 or later of Universal Robots’ PolyScope operating system, eliminating the need for new hardware purchases. The update can be applied quickly, and units shipped later in 2024 will come equipped with the necessary software.

This development was first demonstrated at the China International Industry Fair in Shanghai, where the UR20’s enhanced capabilities were on display. Universal Robots emphasizes that this update reflects the company’s commitment to continuous innovation aimed at improving customer productivity.
