The Ukraine armed forces claim they have used the Turkish Bayraktar TB2 Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) to destroy Russian armored vehicles. In a video posted on scial media a strike on a military convoy is shown, apparantly by a drone. This would be the first time drones are used to kill in a major conflict, although the Bayraktar has been employed in other engagements as well.
Ukraine was able to quickly use these weapons during the Russian invasion, because it has been cooperating with Turkey in the field of military drones for some time. Earlier this year Turkey and Ukraine announced an agreement to coproduce the drone at a production site in Ukraine. And as early as 2019 Baykar Makina won a contract to sell Bayraktar TB2 UAVs to Ukraine. The $69 million contract also involved the sale of ammunition for the armed version of the aircraft.
