Tech United from Eindhoven secured their eighth world title in the RoboCup Middle Size League. The team, composed of students, PhD candidates, and staff from Eindhoven University of Technology, triumphed at the global championship for autonomous robots held in their home city.
The final match saw Tech United’s soccer robots, named TURTLE (Tech United RoboCup Team: Limited Edition), achieve a decisive 6-1 victory over China’s BigHeroX team. By halftime, Tech United led 3-0. BigHeroX received three yellow cards during the match for collisions and pushing. Despite strong defense from both teams, Tech United’s superior agility, ball handling, and reception skills ensured their dominance. The team had made significant improvements to the hardware and software of their robots, contributing to their success.
In addition to their soccer victory, Tech United also achieved fourth place with their care robot HERO in the @Home competition. This competition focuses on developing robots to assist elderly people in living independently at home, potentially alleviating the workload in the healthcare sector.
RoboCup aims to advance the development of reliable and affordable autonomous robots for societal benefit. One of its goals is to create soccer robots capable of defeating the human world champion by 2050. Tech United is committed to this ambitious objective.
Looking ahead, Tech United will defend their title at next year’s RoboCup in Brazil.
