Vention has introduced a robotic sanding solution, the Rapid Sanding Solution (RSS), aimed at assisting cabinetmakers and woodworkers in automating sanding processes. The product is part of Vention’s Rapid Series of cobot solutions, designed for quick deployment and return on investment.
The RSS is a pre-assembled robotic work cell that features a FANUC CRX-30iA collaborative robot, a PushCorp rectangular sanding tool, and an integrated laser system for panel measurement. It is optimized for use with 3M Abrasive Solutions, with 3M providing expertise in abrasive automation processes. The system accommodates up to eight sanding stations and includes an intuitive touchscreen interface for selecting sanding patterns. It operates on standard 120V electrical outlets and air lines.
Vention’s expansion into robotic sanding follows growing industry demand for automated solutions, particularly amid a labor shortage in the woodworking sector. The company, which provides automation solutions to over 4,000 manufacturing facilities across North America and Europe, developed the RSS in collaboration with 3M. Fabridor, a Quebec-based cabinetmaker, implemented a custom robotic sanding system from Vention in 2024. General Manager Hubert Dubois reported a 31% improvement in sanding efficiency after six weeks of operation. The National Kitchen and Bath Association has cited labor shortages, an aging workforce, and declining vocational training as ongoing challenges for the industry.
