Skyline Robotics, in collaboration with The Durst Organization and Palladium Window Solutions, has deployed a robotic-armed window-cleaning robot, Ozmo, at 1133 Avenue of the Americas in New York City. The Ozmo robot, equipped with artificial intelligence, machine learning, and advanced robotics, is designed to clean windows three times faster than traditional methods, removing human workers from hazardous conditions. The window-cleaning industry is valued at $40 billion globally.
The deployment of Ozmo comes at a time when the industry faces a labor shortage, exacerbated by an aging workforce, with 75% of window cleaners in the U.S. being over 40 years old. Despite being fully autonomous, the robot is operated by humans from a computer on the rooftop, promoting a collaborative environment where technology and human oversight work in tandem.
The Durst Organization, which owns and manages 1133 Avenue of the Americas, has a long history of integrating innovative technologies into its properties. This latest venture underscores the organization’s commitment to enhancing building maintenance through cutting-edge solutions. Palladium Window Solutions, a leading high-rise window cleaning firm in New York City, also supports this technological shift, which has received approval from the New York State Department of Labor.
