The BMW factory in Munich has commissioned a new welding line equipped with Inxpect’s safety radar system. The sensors in this system use radar-based technology to safely detect people and ensure that machines only operate when workers are outside the work area.
The Inxpect 200 series safety radar used at the BMW Group’s Munich plant is the world’s first radar sensor to be SIL2/Pld/Cat3 certified. It allows industrial robots to safely sense the presence of people in their work areas, detecting even the slightest movements caused by breathing. This is to prevent accidents with employees. The rapid response time of the sensors allows production to resume at full speed once the work area is cleared.
