ProMat: Agility Robotics introduces latest generation of humanoid Digit

by Marco van der Hoeven

Agility Robotics has introduced the latest generation of its humanoid robot, Digit, at the 2025 ProMat trade show in Chicago. The upgraded model includes enhancements in battery life, autonomous docking, manufacturing efficiency, and safety systems. The company stated that these developments are intended to support broader commercial deployment and facilitate collaborative safety in environments shared with human workers.

The new version of Digit features expanded battery capabilities with up to four hours of operation, autonomous docking for recharging, and a streamlined manufacturing process. Safety improvements include a Category 1 stop, a safety programmable logic controller (PLC), on-robot and wireless emergency stop (E-stop) systems, and the integration of Functional Safety over EtherCAT (FSoE). These safety measures aim to align Digit with existing industrial mobile robot standards and enable deployment in Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)-regulated environments.

Digit’s updated mechanical structure includes new limbs and end effectors, which expand the robot’s manipulation capabilities and support additional operational use cases. The robot is designed to work alongside Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs), with Digit managing tasks such as dispatching AMRs for material transport. Agility Robotics has highlighted the complementary roles of humanoid robots and AMRs—where Digit performs manipulation tasks in human-centric environments and AMRs handle long-distance transport.

At the ProMat event, Digit demonstrated coordination with AMRs from MiR and Zebra Technologies, showcasing applications such as tote handling, loading and unloading, palletizing, and working with automated systems like putwalls and flowracks. The robot has already been deployed in collaborative operations with AMRs at a GXO facility near Atlanta, Georgia.

Agility’s cloud-based platform, Agility Arc, supports the management of Digit fleets and integration with enterprise systems such as Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), Warehouse Execution Systems (WES), and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs). Recent updates to Agility Arc include support for AMR coordination, charger and workcell integration, webhook capabilities, and remote diagnostics and maintenance.

According to the company, the upgrades to Digit and its integration capabilities reflect ongoing efforts to enable scalable humanoid robot deployment in commercial environments while prioritizing safety and interoperability with existing automation technologies.
