Okibo Expands to US with Painting and Drywall Finishing Robots

by Pieter Werner

Robotics company Okibo has announced the opening of its United States headquarters in Englewood, New Jersey. The company also confirmed the commercial launch of its EG7 robot in the U.S. market. The EG7 is a battery-operated robot designed for painting and drywall finishing tasks. According to the company, the robot functions autonomously without the need for site preparation, external markers, or internet connectivity.

It utilizes a proprietary AI-based 3D scanning and real-time modeling system to navigate and perform tasks. Okibo reports that the EG7 has already been deployed on American construction sites and has previously covered over one million square feet in Europe.

The EG7 is built to operate in environments such as residential, multifamily, and office buildings. It weighs approximately 800 pounds and is 27 inches wide, allowing it to move through standard doorways. The robot includes features such as an omnidirectional drive system, modular components for various applications, and a power system based on standard 5kWh club cart batteries. It holds CE certification, indicating compliance with safety and electromagnetic compatibility standards.

Okibo’s Chief Operating Officer and co-founder, Nadav Shuruk, stated that the robot is intended to reduce physical strain and safety risks on construction sites by removing the need for manual ladder work and repetitive tasks. The company positions its technology as a response to labor shortages in the construction sector, citing projections from the National Center for Construction Education and Research that 41 percent of the workforce may retire by 2031.
