International startup moves to Denmark to develop software to improve data security and prevent robots from being hacked. Mentors from the Odense Robotics StartUp Fund and the robot incubator at the Danish Technological Institute will help the solution on its way.
With the increasing number of digital devices that are connected daily, new opportunities are created, but also challenges such as hacking and data leaks. Therefore, companies all too often face challenges in maintaining trust in the data that their systems collect and use.
Sushant Pandey, founder and CEO of the startup company Scurid, has set out to do something about it.
With a background in industry and a clear vision to improve data trust—especially in robotics—Scurid will ensure with its solution that autonomous decisions are made on reliable data.
Now, this has resulted in the company being selected by Odense Robotics StartUp Fund, where robot and drone startups from Denmark and abroad get access to soft funding, mentors, and an incubator environment at the Danish Technological Institute in Odense.
“I wake up every morning to solve this complex problem regarding safety. We have so many devices that are connected every day and create new opportunities in a good way. But it also presents challenges such as being hacked, being compromised, and data leakage. Being able to solve this complex problem, which in some cases can help save lives, is really the driving factor for me,” says Sushant Pandey.
Sushant Pandey comes from India and currently lives in Germany and is now moving to Denmark, while his co-founder Darrell Lords is American but lives in Japan. Therefore, Scurid is present in both Japan and Denmark, with Denmark as the head office.
Data security
Data plays a crucial role in manufacturing and robotics. If these are not secure or reliable, decisions made by autonomous systems can be wrong, with serious consequences.
“The incubator is a perfect testing ground for us, where we can get support, test our software and get advice on how to best build the company based on our whole idea,” says Sushant Pandey and continues:
“One of the biggest risks that we are trying to solve right now is access to private information, which can be passwords, various API keys and so on, used in the production process and robotics. So we reduce the attack surface for these different companies by automating that process.”
Necessity
Scurid has developed a solution—a software platform—that simplifies and ensures traceability and trust in data. This means that decisions made in the production process are reliable and cannot be hacked or compromised.
And it plays an enormous role now and, in the future, if you ask Vice President, Strategy and Innovation at Universal Robots, Anders Billesø Beck.
“Cybersecurity is one of the most critical factors for any company today, and we are seeing more and more customers increasingly focusing on it. In terms of legislation, a lot is also happening in the area,” he says and continues:
“Having strong cybersecurity solutions is no longer an option, but a necessity. And with Scurid’s inclusion in the Odense Robotics StartUp Fund, a big step is being taken towards some good, modern solutions and a more secure future.”
Currently, Scurid works with partners such as Arrow Electronics, Microsoft, and the Danish company TrustStamp.
Odense Robotics StartUp Fund is a business fund with the aim of giving robot entrepreneurs from Denmark and abroad easier access to capital, sparring, and a strong incubation environment:
