Nauticus Robotics, specializing in autonomous subsea robotics and software, recently completed its initial 2024 Gulf of Mexico survey work for Shell Exploration and Production, a subsidiary of Shell. The project, conducted off the coast of Louisiana, was part of a service contract awarded to Nauticus in 2023. It included the survey of both active and inactive assets at depths reaching 1,000 meters, performed entirely through untethered, autonomous operations.
According to Nauticus Robotics’ CEO John Gibson, the project is an important step in the company’s shift toward fully commercial operations. Gibson noted that the successful completion of the Gulf of Mexico survey further demonstrates the viability of Nauticus’ autonomous systems in challenging deepwater conditions. He also indicated that the company’s commercial project pipeline for 2025 is expanding, buoyed by successful demonstrations like this one.
