Milrem Robotics launches HAVOC 8×8 Robotic Combat Vehicle

by Marco van der Hoeven

Milrem Robotics has introduced the HAVOC 8×8 Robotic Combat Vehicle (RCV), a heavily armed autonomous ground platform designed to support mechanized units in combat operations. The launch marks a shift in the company’s approach, which previously focused on developing unarmed robotic support vehicles. The decision to introduce weaponized systems follows the lessons learned from the war in Ukraine, where unmanned systems have played an increasing role in modern warfare.

The HAVOC 8×8 RCV is equipped with AI-driven navigation and is designed for both offensive and defensive operations across various terrains and climates. It features a baseline payload capacity of five tons, allowing for the integration of multiple weapon stations, including a 30 mm turret with missile launchers by Frankenburg, the Halcon HS2 by Kongsberg, and a minelayer by KNDS. The vehicle is engineered to function as a force multiplier, supporting infantry fighting vehicles and battle tanks while enhancing troop survivability by increasing standoff distance from enemy forces.

Weighing approximately 15 tons without payload, the HAVOC RCV maintains high mobility with a hybrid-electric all-wheel-drive system, reaching a maximum speed of 110 km/h on roads and 50 km/h off-road. It is designed for adaptability, with modular payload options ensuring sustained operational effectiveness. The vehicle also features protection levels in line with STANAG 4569 standards for kinetic energy, artillery, and mine threats.

Milrem’s shift from unarmed logistics and support robots to weaponized combat systems reflects the evolving demands of modern warfare. The war in Ukraine has underscored the importance of autonomous and remotely operated combat vehicles in reducing troop casualties and increasing operational effectiveness. The HAVOC 8×8 RCV represents the company’s response to this changing battlefield landscape, offering a flexible and heavily armed platform for future military engagements.
