In a new concept video Lockheed Martin shows what it called Distributed Teams, consisting of a manned fighter and unmanned dones. The technology is being developed by its famous innovation department, calles Skunk Works, and could be operational witin three years.
John Clark, vice president and general manager of Skunk Works stated to reporters before the Farnborough Airshow, that will take place this week, that the drones will be expendable, which makes them cheaper than more advanced systems. The US Air Force has been working for several years now on adding autonomous and artificial intelligence to drones. Air Force Secretary Frank Kendall earlier this year said turning the crewed-uncrewed teaming concept into reality is one of his top priorities.
