Leuze introduces new LiDAR laser scanners

by Pieter Werner

Leuze has introduced two new series of LiDAR laser scanners, expanding its product range to support contour measurement and navigation tasks in industrial environments. The ROD 300 series is designed for use in production and logistics applications, while the ROD 500 series provides high-resolution data for automated guided vehicle (AGV) navigation.

According to the company, both series feature high scanning frequencies and angular resolution to support detailed contour detection and measurement. The ROD 300 series is intended for use in fast-moving environments, such as conveyor systems, where accurate shape detection is required. The ROD 500 series, with a resolution of 0.025° at 10 Hz and a scanning frequency of up to 80 Hz, is aimed at navigation applications, including natural navigation in AGVs.

The devices are equipped with an integrated window monitoring system that identifies contamination on the optics window and triggers a maintenance alert. The sensitivity of the alert can be configured to support predictive maintenance practices, which the company states helps maintain system availability.

The scanners are built for use in varied industrial conditions, featuring an IP67-rated aluminum housing and operational capability across a temperature range of -30 °C to +60 °C. Leuze states that this enables their deployment in sectors with extreme environmental demands, including cold storage and high-temperature manufacturing areas such as battery production.

The compact form factor of the scanners, measuring 80 x 80 x 80 mm, facilitates integration into space-constrained systems, including mobile vehicles.
