Geek+, provider of logistic robotics , has launched its first project in South Africa in collaboration with European Conveyors and Components (ECC) for the online retailer Takealot. The initiative introduces a fleet of intelligent sorting robots to Takealot’s Johannesburg facility, aiming to enhance operational efficiency and workplace ergonomics.
The deployment integrates manual and automated induction stations, allowing the system to process irregularly shaped items and manage up to 50,000 parcels daily. The implementation, completed within six months, reflects the partnership between Geek+, Takealot, and ECC in addressing logistical challenges amid Takealot’s rapid expansion.
Francois Retief, Group Executive for Supply Chain Management at Takealot Group, stated that the project aligns with the company’s focus on improving customer experience and employee well-being by reducing physical strain and increasing productivity.
Wayne Tai, Head of Channel at Geek+ EMEA, described the project as a step toward shaping the future of logistics in South Africa, while Andrew Cooper, Managing Director of ECC, highlighted the partnership’s role in advancing automation within the region. This deployment marks Geek+’s entry into its 40th market.
