Cruise, the self-driving unit of GM, will introduce its robotaxi rides in Phoenix and Austin within 90 days, Crusie CEO Kyle Vogt said during Goldman Sachs Communacopia + Technology Conference.
Cruise already has a fully driverless robotaxi service in San Francisco since June 2022, with 70 driverless taxis operating in the city. These rides in a Cruise vehicle cost as much as Lyft or an Uber. Vogt said since launching, the company’s robotaxis have driven 300,000 miles autonomously, and nearly half of their customers return for another autonomous ride. Waymo, part of Google parent Alphabet, also operates in San Francisco and Phoenix.
