Comand AI Secures €8.5 Million in Funding for Military AI

by Marco van der Hoeven

Comand AI, a Paris-based deeptech company specializing in defense and security software, has announced the completion of an €8.5 million seed funding round. The investment was led by Eurazeo, with participation from existing investor Frst and new contributions from Expeditions Fund and other partners.

The funding aims to support Comand AI’s development of advanced artificial intelligence applications designed to strengthen the operational capabilities of European armed forces.

Addressing Modern Warfare Challenges

Comand AI was established in 2023 amid heightened geopolitical tensions following the war in Ukraine. The company focuses on delivering AI-driven tools to transform the decision-making processes of military operations. Its flagship product suite, Prevail, assists command center officers in planning operations under tight constraints and in extracting insights from past engagements. These tools are intended to streamline two critical stages of military command—operations planning and post-operation analysis—by significantly reducing the time and resources required.

Founder Loïc Mougeolle emphasized the transformative potential of AI in defense, stating, “We are entering a new era in military operations. AI is a technology with no historical precedent and can be used to transform the command of human-machine teams. Our platform equips officers with advanced tactical capabilities, laying the groundwork for a new standard of superiority.”

Expansion and Strategic Vision

Since its inception, Comand AI has developed two solutions and secured contracts in two countries, including France. The company aims to leverage its funding to accelerate product development, expand its team, and bolster its position as a provider of AI-driven defense tools tailored to European requirements.

The startup’s team includes experts with backgrounds at global technology companies such as Palantir and OpenAI, as well as specialists with experience in the French Ministry of the Armed Forces. This combination of technical and operational expertise positions the company to deliver solutions aligned with the needs of military clients.

Thomas Turelier, Investment Director at Eurazeo, commented on the funding: “This funding round positions Comand AI as a future AI-driven leader in the defense sector, marking a crucial step toward strengthening European sovereignty.”

A European-Driven Approach

Comand AI’s development reflects broader European efforts to enhance strategic autonomy in defense technology. By creating state-of-the-art software within Europe, the company seeks to contribute to the operational superiority of French and allied militaries.

The newly secured funding will enable Comand AI to grow its workforce and accelerate the deployment of its solutions. The company’s long-term objective is to revolutionize military command capabilities through innovative software tailored to the complexities of modern conflict.
