Mobile Industrial Robots (MiR) has announced the release of the MC600, a mobile collaborative robot designed to enhance industrial automation by combining a high-payload autonomous mobile robot with advanced robotic arms. Capable of handling payloads of up to 600 kilograms, the MC600 integrates MiR’s MiR600 autonomous mobile robot (AMR) with Universal Robots’ heavy-payload UR20 and UR30 collaborative robotic arms. The system is targeted at automating tasks such as palletizing, box handling, and machine tending, addressing the demand for flexible and scalable automation in industrial settings.
The MC600 builds on the smaller MC250, which has seen widespread use in lighter manufacturing applications, including semiconductor fabrication. According to MiR, the new system’s expanded capabilities, including the UR20’s extended reach, enable automation in areas previously out of reach for smaller cobots. This advancement is expected to streamline complex workflows, improve productivity, and enhance workplace ergonomics by reducing the physical strain on human workers.
Jean-Pierre Hathout, President of MiR, emphasized the MC600’s potential to transform industrial automation, describing it as a “proven, safe, and ready-to-deploy system” designed to simplify integration and improve operational efficiency. He highlighted its role in addressing challenges in tasks such as palletizing and machine tending, which have traditionally relied on customized solutions or humanoid robots that are not yet widely adopted.
The MC600 leverages a unified software platform developed in partnership with Enabled Robotics, enabling seamless coordination between its mobile base and robotic arms. This integration ensures ease of deployment and compatibility with existing workflows. As part of Teradyne Robotics, MiR and Universal Robots bring their expertise in AI and robotics to create a system that prioritizes flexibility, safety, and efficiency.
Ujjwal Kumar, Group President of Teradyne Robotics, noted the growing demand for solutions capable of handling heavier manufacturing applications. He stated that the MC600 exemplifies the company’s commitment to offering adaptable and reliable automation technologies.
The MC600 will debut at Logistics & Automation Madrid, where attendees can observe live demonstrations of its functionality in industrial environments.
