Computer Scientist Dr. Ben Goertzel, founder of SingularityNET, has announced a grant program exceeding $1 million to support developers working on AGI advancements aimed at benefiting humanity. The initiative, launched through SingularityNET’s DeepFunding program, seeks to foster innovative research and development projects that align with the organization’s mission of creating a decentralized and democratic AGI.

Grant recipients will gain access to SingularityNET’s decentralized AI platform and the OpenCog Hyperon framework, enabling them to collaborate within a global network of AGI researchers. The funding aims to support advanced research students, AI engineers, and researchers, particularly from developing regions, reflecting SingularityNET’s commitment to inclusivity in technological advancement.

Currently, 13 OpenCog Hyperon Challenges are open, offering opportunities for multiple winners. Applicants have until December 1, 2024, to submit proposals, though this deadline may be extended. Selected projects will have a timeline of three to nine months for completion, depending on their scope.

Dr. Goertzel, an advocate for the democratization of AGI, leads multiple organizations including the Artificial Superintelligence (ASI) Alliance, OpenCog Foundation, and Humanity+. He is recognized for his extensive contributions to fields spanning AGI, robotics, and computational science. Among his notable achievements is leading the team behind Hanson Robotics’ Sophia robot.

SingularityNET, founded by Dr. Goertzel, emphasizes decentralized AI development. The platform facilitates collaboration among a diverse team of experts in various fields, including robotics, finance, and biomedical AI, all aimed at creating accessible and independent AGI solutions.
