Kubota Robot Named CES 2025 Best of Innovation

by Pieter Werner

Kubota Tractor Corporation has been named the “Best of Innovation” award recipient at the CES Innovation Awards 2025 for its all-terrain KATR robot. Recognized in the Industrial Equipment and Machinery category, the KATR was selected by a panel of judges for its advanced engineering, functionality, and design, making it a notable advancement in agricultural and construction technology.

The Kubota KATR is a compact, four-wheeled robotic platform equipped with advanced stability control features. These capabilities allow the KATR to maintain a level cargo deck on uneven and sloped terrains, enabling efficient operation in demanding off-road environments. The robot’s design incorporates a proprietary algorithm that processes sensor data in real-time to command its hydraulically actuated legs, ensuring stability during operation. Independent motors on each wheel further enhance its ability to navigate challenging terrain.

Powered by either an electric or combustion engine, the KATR offers users flexibility in energy sources. It has a load capacity of 284 pounds (129 kilograms) and can be controlled remotely or via an onboard interface. The robot is designed to improve productivity in agriculture and construction sectors, aligning with Kubota’s commitment to sustainability and customer-driven solutions.

Commenting on the award, Brett McMickell, Chief Technology Officer of Kubota North America, emphasized the company’s philosophy of creating technically excellent and resource-conscious products that enhance quality of life. He highlighted the KATR’s versatility as a key feature in advancing productivity within its target industries.

The CES Innovation Awards are presented by the Consumer Technology Association, which organizes the annual CES event. The 2025 CES will take place from January 7–10 in Las Vegas, Nevada, showcasing global innovations across a wide range of industries. Additional details about Kubota’s participation in the event are available on the company’s website.
