Swiss-based autonomous logistics company LOXO has announced its first international expansion with the establishment of a subsidiary in Munich, Germany. Founded in 2021 and headquartered in Bern, LOXO specializes in autonomous driving solutions for middle-mile delivery and mobile distribution hub logistics. This move marks a key phase in the company’s plans to broaden its operations within Europe.
The expansion builds on LOXO’s successful deployment of Level 4 autonomous driving technology, operational on 65 kilometers of public roads in Bern. This achievement, the first of its kind in Europe, has seen LOXO collaborating with Swiss companies such as logistics provider Planzer and online retailer Migros to demonstrate the practical application of its technology.
Germany’s logistics market, characterized by a robust infrastructure and progressive policies on autonomous vehicles, is a strategic choice for LOXO. The country’s middle-mile logistics sector was valued at approximately $379.89 billion in 2023 and is forecasted to exceed $504 billion by 2032. The repetitive and predictable nature of middle-mile routes presents a favorable environment for the implementation of autonomous solutions.
LOXO’s Munich subsidiary will be led by co-founder and Chief Business Officer Lara Amini, who will oversee efforts to partner with local firms and attract talent to scale LOXO’s innovations across Germany. Speaking about the expansion, CEO Amin Amini cited Germany’s strong logistics framework and automotive expertise as critical factors in the decision to enter this market.
The company has emphasized that its ambitions extend beyond replacing conventional vehicles with autonomous alternatives. By fostering partnerships and driving technological advancements, LOXO aims to reshape the logistics industry and further integrate autonomous vehicles into the supply chain.
