Nimble, an AI robotics and autonomous e-commerce fulfillment technology company, has secured $106 million in Series C funding, bringing its valuation to $1 billion. The round, led by FedEx with participation from Cedar Pine LLC, signals an expanded strategic partnership with FedEx, which will implement Nimble’s autonomous fulfillment technology in its FedEx Fulfillment service.
The new funds will be directed toward expanding Nimble’s manufacturing and deployment capacities, alongside continued research and development of autonomous logistics solutions. Nimble’s technology is designed to address the operational inefficiencies associated with traditional warehouse automation, where the integration of disparate robotics solutions has led to complex and costly systems. Currently, more than 90% of warehouses operate manually or with limited robotics. Even the most advanced warehouses rely on robots with limited intelligence, confining their applications largely to storage and retrieval tasks.
Nimble’s autonomous robots, however, represent a departure from these constraints. Capable of managing all core warehouse functions—storage, retrieval, picking, packing, and sorting—the company’s general-purpose robots are engineered for versatility and cost efficiency. By employing a comprehensive data collection strategy and advanced AI model training, Nimble’s technology enables fully autonomous fulfillment centers that simplify and reduce the cost of logistics operations. Founder and CEO Simon Kalouche emphasized the benefits of the company’s end-to-end solution, noting that it replaces the need for multiple individual systems, thus streamlining installation, maintenance, and scalability while reducing costs by as much as 70%.
The autonomous systems are managed through Nimble’s Cloud Logistics Platform, an integrated platform that provides warehouse management (WMS), order management (OMS), transportation management (TMS), inventory management (IMS), and returns management (RMS) capabilities. This platform delivers real-time visibility and control for omni-channel brands across their supply chains.
Scott Temple, President of FedEx Supply Chain, commented on the collaboration, indicating that Nimble’s technology will enhance both employee efficiency and customer service offerings. Cedar Pine’s Managing Director and Nimble board member, Stephen Weiss, echoed this sentiment, describing the company’s autonomous centers as a driver of unique economic and operational advantages for both FedEx and Nimble’s broader customer base.
