Robot delivers Uber Eats in LA

by Marco van der Hoeven

Serve Robotics and Shake Shack have announced a new partnership to deliver Shake Shack meals using Serve’s autonomous sidewalk delivery robots via Uber Eats, the online food delivery platform operated by Uber Technologies Inc. This service will initially be available to customers at select Shake Shack locations in Los Angeles.

The collaboration marks a significant step in Serve Robotics’ plan to expand its fleet of autonomous delivery robots, with the company aiming to deploy up to 2,000 robots across the United States by 2025.

Serve’s delivery robots, which have been operational in Los Angeles through Uber Eats since 2022, are equipped with advanced GPS technology and artificial intelligence to navigate urban environments. These robots are designed to provide a secure, contactless delivery experience, ensuring that food remains protected and fresh throughout the journey. The robots are also optimized for efficient route planning, enabling timely deliveries. Additionally, the all-electric nature of these robots helps to reduce noise pollution, alleviate urban congestion, and lower the carbon footprint associated with traditional delivery methods.

The partnership between Serve Robotics, Shake Shack, and Uber Eats reflects a broader trend towards the integration of autonomous technology in the food delivery industry. By leveraging this technology, the companies aim to enhance customer convenience while also increasing operational efficiency. Serve Robotics has highlighted its successful relationship with Uber Eats, which has facilitated tens of thousands of deliveries, as a key factor in enabling this partnership with Shake Shack. The companies involved have expressed their commitment to further expanding the use of autonomous delivery solutions across more regions in the future.
