Wine distributor employs autonomous mobile robots

Geek+ has partnered with Körber to robitize warehouse operations at the Hawesko Group’s facility in Tornesch, Germany. This collaboration involves the deployment of over 20 autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) to automate the handling of 20 million bottles of wine and champagne annually. The project expands the operational area to 6,000 square meters with 330 shelves managed by Geek+ robots.

Simon Houghton of Geek+ highlighted the enduring partnership with Körber, noting their joint efforts have resulted in the deployment of more than 3,000 robots across eleven countries. The integration of advanced software and automation has improved warehouse performance at Hawesko by 50 percent. Körber’s digital logistics platform, featuring a Warehouse Management System (WMS) and Unified Control System (UCS), serves as the central hub for optimizing the control of the automated technology and enhancing communication with robotics applications. This system has more than doubled pick performance in the expanded area.

Michael Brandl of Körber emphasized the growing importance of efficient processes to meet the rising demands of online retail. He stated that the combined solution of WMS, AMR technology, and UCS meets these needs by providing high-performing and resource-efficient logistics support. Geek+ claims mobile order fulfillment robots have shown significant benefits in the logistics sector, allowing for up to 30 percent more effective use of storage space.
